WP 4 – Development and evaluation of integrated refinery concepts, cost analysis, synergy and optimisation potentials (KIT – IIP)
Work package 4 deals with the development and evaluation of integrated refinery concepts for the production of future fuels. The aim is to derive networked overall concepts based on relevant process constellations and the techno-economic and ecological evaluation of these approaches. Both existing refineries will be expanded by retrofitting and decentralised greenfield options will be investigated.
In close cooperation with the project partners, process simulations are being created that record mass flows, energy efficiency and carbon balances. In addition, a detailed cost analysis will be carried out, taking into account investment and operating costs, scaling effects and possible synergies. The assessment of the environmental impact includes a life cycle analysis (LCA) to determine greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental effects.
Innovation
A key aspect of innovation is the holistic consideration of refinery concepts, incorporating real technical data and experimental findings. The combination of process simulations with economic and ecological analyses creates a reliable basis for the optimisation of future refinery processes. The use of modern simulation software enables more precise statements to be made on the efficiency and profitability of the various concepts. In addition, regulatory framework conditions are taken into account at an early stage to ensure practical feasibility.
